St. Barth, FWI
I have had quite a bit of difficulty walking in the sand. My left ankle and toe drop is so severe that I walk on the outside of my foot which is both painful and causes my spasticity to intensify in my legs. I did go in the water at Shell Beach because Mary would drag me down to the water in my wheelchair and I would then just push myself from there into the surf. My movement in my legs in the water is the same as last year. So, my goal of walking on and off the beach was not met. My balance is still not there as it relates to my sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Thank goodness for the very generous French men who have either pulled me and my chair down to or back off of the beach.
I am disappointed and concerned at this point that the improvement that I have made has been due to my sheer determination. I plan to talk to Dr. Robson and Dr. Nelson when I return from this vacation. I met Michael J. Fox when Mary and I were shopping on Thursday. Mary was having difficulty lifting my chair from the drive to the elevated deck leading into Kiwi Swim Apparel. I introduced myself and told him what I was doing with Dr. Robson. As I was leaving Michael said he would have someone from the foundation check it out. And he said “Farrand Robson from Spokane” I said no Farrand Robson from Tacoma….When I get home I will send him a note.
